Hello world!
I’m Dan and I’m an indie game dev from the UK who was recently asked to write weekly blog posts here at the Independent Gaming blog. Quickly, I snatched up the opportunity to write here about indie game development and game design. This could be anything from useful tips about development and design, to links, to useful resources which can help with indie game development. I also happen to study ICT and video game design which means that my blog posts will contain information on the theory side of designing games, too. But enough about me; you can just read that on the team page!
This being my first post here, I want to give something that can be beneficial to everyone. This being the case, I went out to the depths of the internet to find a huge collection of useful resources which will be beneficial to indie game developers, whether they’re professionals or just doing it as a hobby!
The most common moan I hear from indie devs is that they can’t make their ideas a reality because they can’t sprite or create the music for their games. What these people fail to realise is that there’s a whole array of online resources just waiting to be tapped!

ABOUT THE AUTHOR: Dan Jake Neal (Frolacosta to internet folk) is a self-confessed nerd and enjoys calling himself an indie game developer. When he’s not locked away in his office making games he can be found lurking the internet as his alter-ego. He is known for founding, editing and writing for IndieGo Magazine back in 2010 and currently resides on his own personal blog and Twitter. He enjoys any game with a good enough story to bring a tear to his eye or games scary enough to stop him sleeping for weeks!

Great post!
For mac peoples, Pixen is a great free graphics app.
Flashpunk and Flixel are great IDE’s for 2D Flash development
And OGMO and DAME are great level editors to use in conjunction with either IDE.
That’s my loadout, anywho!
