We don’t often talk about driving games but this one caught my eye – mostly because I like open world games. Ocean City Racing is a open world racing game by
Onur Uça on Windows PC, powered by the Unreal Engine 3 of Batman: Arkham City, Mass Effect and Unreal Tournament fame (just to name a few). This makes the game look fantastic, as does the day/night system and real-time lighting.
The creator wants realism with the driving and he emphasizes that the game has the most detailed and accurate driving physics of any indie game out there, but I didn’t get a chance to see that for myself.
The world itself is a highlight, where you can explore a massive city (and its working subway system) as well as an island which is connected to the bridge with a highway. The game also boasts a realistic pedestrian and traffic system. In free roam mode, you can explore the game world in a car (you can jump in anyone you find, with around fifteen varieties of cars in all) or in a first-person view. Exploring is encouraged as the world is littered with secrets to find and stunts to do.
The game is a more traditional racer in time trial mode, in which you choose from the tracks and try to beat the fastest time by going through checkpoint flares. A racing mode (just plain racing) with “real AI” is being worked on but is not guaranteed in the final version.
All of this is available for 5$ and the game will be released in the last quarter of 2012. Help them out by voting for them on Steam Greenlight or help them reach their funding goal!
